Science in the Early Years
There has been an increasing focus on the importance of STEM (Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics) in the past 5-10 years. With government agendas for promoting STEM in primary schools and secondary schools, the Department for Education states
“The STEM Strategy - helping to empower future generations through science, technology, engineering and mathematics to grow a dynamic, innovative economy.”
There has not yet been an emphasis of cultivating this in the early years. We believe that children are naturally curious, mini-scientists, who explore, learn and problem solve. The current Early Years Inspection Framework (2019) refers to how high-quality settings promote awe, wonder and curiosity.
